POONCH, Aug 27: Senior BJP leader and president Hindu Mahasabha Mendhar Unit, Satish Sharma, Vishav Hindu Parishand, Sanatan Dharam Sabha and Bajrang Dal leaders today demanded that FIR must be lodged against the NC MLA Javed Rana as he was leading the protest on August 26 (Sunday) at Mendhar where his party workers raised ‘Azadi’ and anti-India slogans in the main market and he and his men disturbed the famous Hindu festival (Rakshabandan) by announcing Mendhar bandh.
Addressing a press conference today at Mendhar, these leaders said if any organization or group holds protest in support of Art 35-A or opposes it, it is its democratic right. There can not be any problem to any body. But when there was no bandh in Poonch, Surankote, Rajouri or even at Jammu, why a bandh was imposed on the people of Mendhar and that too, on the day when the famous Hindu festival Rakshabandan was there on Sunday. The NC MLA and his party workers/ supporters do not have any respect for the sentiments and festivals of minority community. They deliberately tried to create disturbance and forcibly closed the town. They alleged that District and Tehsil Administration have totally failed to ensure law and order at Mendhar and protect the rights of minorities.
They said the Hindu community in Mendhar could not make purchases of necessary items including Rakhis, sweets and other gifts etc on the festive occasion. They faced lot of problems. The traders who had made huge purchases for selling their goods on Rakshbandan festival could not sell the same and they kept lying in their shops. They also suffered huge loss. They said if MLA or his men were so keen for the bandh they should have chosen a day earlier or one day after Rakshabandan. They said the NC MLA must seek apology from the minority community for disturbing their festival.
While referring to the pro-Azadi and anti-India slogans raised by NC workers, to whom MLA was leading, Satish Sharma and other leaders said entire responsibility lies upon the MLA. Every body knows who were the people raising loud slogans and they have also been picked up on cameras. The police must arrest the accused who tried to disturb peace by instigating youth and flaring up possible communal tension in the peaceful town. They demanded that MLA should be booked for the unlawful activities at Mendhar on Sunday.
Vikas Sawhney, Rajinder Parsad, Mangal Singh and Rakesh Gupta also accompanied Satish Sharma.
