UDHAMPUR, Mar 11: Demanding shifting of garbage dumping station near Kali Mata Temple, locals of Jakheni area today protested against Udhampur Municipal Committee (UMC) and forced all the garbage loaded vehicles to return without unloading at garbage station Jakhani.
The protesting people raised slogans against the Udhampur Municipal Committee (UMC) and demanded immediate shifting of the garbage dumping station outside Jakhani.
They said that the garbage dumping station was situated in habituated area on the banks of river Tawi where filtration of water takes place and the same water is being supplied to Udhampur town. Jaundice, diarrhea and other skin diseases are causing to the people due to polluted water being supplied from garbage dumping site, they said and demanded a permanent and scientific solution to get rid of this problem so that clean environment can be maintained in Udhampur town.
Protestor also threatened to block the National Highway if the Udhampur Municipal Committee does not take early action to solve the problem.
