JAMMU, May 3: Up in arms against alleged encroachment upon JDA land in the locality, people of Gole Gujral held a strong protest dharna here today and served an ultimatum to the Government seeking vacation of the encroached land within a day.
A number of people from the adjoining localities, including women, also took part in the dharna, which was organized under the banner of Mohalla Welfare Committee, Munshi Chak, Gole Gujral Jammu.
While addressing the gathering, people strongly criticized the Government for not taking necessary steps for eviction of JDA land from land grabbers and encroachers despite court orders. People alleged that the officers at the helm of affairs were willfully delaying the action for the reason known to them only.
They also alleged that the nexus between police and land grabbers was so strong that despite issuance of clear cut instructions and even passing strictures against SSP, no action was taken till date. Law makers have become the law breakers forcing the locals to stage this dharna which is going to take the shape of an agitation if encroachment is not removed till Wednesday, they warned.
Some residents of the adjoining localities highlighted the problems being confronted by them due to animals owned by the encroachers. “These people, if landless, need to be settled at proper places outside municipality where ample space for residential accommodation and grazing of their animal can be provided without causing nuisance for others but at all not in the municipal limits,” the locals said.
Lady wing (Stri Sabha) of the Mohalla committee asked the Government to come clear on the issue and get the land vacated within next 24 hours failing which the Stri Sabha would be forced to take the law in their hands.
“We are ready for any sacrifice for the country and shall not bear injustice anymore and strongly oppose the appeasement policy of the Government as well as the police and the revenue authorities, they warned.
