LoC calm, BSF foils intrusion bid

JAMMU, Aug 20: The BSF last night foiled an infiltration attempt by the militants along the International Border (IB) at Chilyari forward area in Samba sector while the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch and Rajouri districts remained calm today with no major report of shelling and firing reported during the day today.
Official sources said Pakistani Rangers fired few rounds violating ceasefire on the IB at Chilyari forward area of Samba sector at 10.20 pm last night. Under the cover of firing, two militants tried to infiltrate into the Indian territory. However, finding the BSF on high alert, the militants retreated to Pakistan.
Meanwhile, the LoC in Poonch and Rajouri districts today witnessed calm after over 13 days of continuous shelling and firing.
“There was no shelling and firing during entire night and the day today in any area including Balakote, Hamirpur, Shahpur, Sabzian and Manjakote in Poonch and Rajouri districts,” sources said.
However, they added, the people remained confined to their houses in Balakote anticipating that shelling could resume anytime.
