POONCH, July 16: An enforcement team of Legal Metrology Department today intercepted a vehicle carrying LPG cylinders for delivery to consumers and seized underweight cylinders while conducting surprise raids in Mendhar and adjoining border areas. The team booked management of the local gas agency after detecting some of its cylinders lesser in quantity upto 1Kg.
Following submission of detailed offence report by the inspector, the Assistant Controller Legal Metrology, Kewal Krishan served legal notice to Jugal gas agency.
The Assistant Controller imposed a fine of Rs.15,000 and directed the management to submit roster of delivery of gas to far flung areas of the district so as to enable the department to keep an eye on its activities.
Saying that anti consumer practices won’t go unpunished, the Assistant Controller warned of recommending the agency for black listing in case such lapses are detected again.
Appealing public to approach the LM Department whenever there is any discrepancy in the quantity of LPG, the Assistant Controller said clearing doubts on weight of LPG is the prime responsibility of delivery man and management. He appealed consumers to insist on weighing the properly sealed cylinder before accepting it and said in case of any doubt they are at liberty to refuse and demand fresh LPG cylinder.
