Liquor bars likely to resume business soon

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Sept 21: Liquor bars in Jammu and Kashmir are likely to get permission for resuming business operations pending renewal of the license till December 31, 2021.
A notification hinting at this development was issued today by the J&K Finance Department, according to which special proviso in this regard shall be added to the Jammu and Kashmir Liquor License and Sale Rules 1984.
“Provided that the Excise Commissioner may in exceptional circumstances extend any license except JK-EL-II (liquor shops) pending renewal granted under these rules till 31st of December 2021 or for any further period with prior concurrence of Government,” read the proviso, added to Sub rule (8) of Rule 30 of the J&K Liquor License and Sales Rules 1984.
Pertinent to mention that the all liquor bars in Jammu and Kashmir are lying closed since September 1 as they failed to get requisite No Objection Certificates (NoCs) from the concerned departments for renewal of their licenses.
There are nearly 250 liquor bars, including in private hotels and clubs across the Union Territory.
