Srinagar, Dec 26: Lieutenant General Harpal Singh, Engineer-in-Chief of the Indian Army was today felicitated at the 36th Indian Engineering Congress (IEC) for his lifetime achievements in the field of military engineering.
The Engineer-in-Chief shared his experiences in tackling various engineering problems of complex nature, including success stories and achievements during the long and illustrious professional career with the Defence Forces.
The General Officer has competently tackled multi-faceted engineering challenges over the last 39 years, including under conditions of adverse terrain and operating environment.
The Congress was organized at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi by the Institution of Engineers (India), as part of its Centenary Celebrations with the Theme of the Congress being, “Engineers for Viable Technology and USD 5 Trillion Economy”.
As per a handout issued here, Lt Gen Singh’s vast spectrum of engineering challenges includes the domains of combat engineering, habitat & training infrastructure, roads & airfields, complex tunnelling projects, construction equipment management and marine infrastructure
In his speech on the occasion, Lt Gen Harpal Singh said that Combat Engineers are ushering in the latest equipment, technologies and innovations as part of Atmanirbhar Efforts to ensure road connectivity to forward areas, ensuring that local communities.
“Micro Tunnelling is the flavour of the time, ensuring hardened defences and operational logistics Infrastructure; tunnels for ammunition storage for Army & Air Force are being taken up in a major way; Nuclear Hardened facilities are being developed in Forwarded Areas to enhance the capabilities of boots on the ground,” he said.
He said that Border Roads Organisation is at the help of strategic road construction not only along the borders but also in neighbouring countries, as part of our strategic outreach.
“The dual-use BRO Infrastructure of roads, tunnels & bridges is a force multiplier not only for our strategic needs but also towards development of communities along with pristine remote border locations,” he said.
Lt Gen Singh urged the young engineers to focus on the Mission, remove all hindrances affecting efficiency, take bold decisions.
While talking about the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, Lt Gen Singh said that they are guiding young minds and Engineers towards innovative research Internships at the Centre of Excellence at the College of Military Engineering, Pune.
