LG asks telecom service providers to ensure 100 pc connectivity in Ladakh

JAMMU, Aug 19: Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Radha Krishna Mathur today called upon the telecom service providers to ensure 100 percent telecom connectivity across the Union Territory which presently stands at 60 percent.
Mathur stated this in a meeting with telecom service providers at Ladakh Bhawan in New Delhi.
The Lieutenant Governor told the service providers that VSATs are not a tenable solution and stressed on a collective effort by them for ensuring 100 percent telecom connectivity across Ladakh.
“Lieutenant Governor RK Mathur held a meeting with telecom service providers at Ladakh Bhawan in New Delhi. He outlined that present coverage in the Union Territory stands at 60 percent and requested the service providers to connect the remaining areas,” a tweet by the office of the Lt Governor Ladakh said.
Ladakh has been facing mobile telephone connectivity problems especially in far flung areas for quite long time. There are many areas where mobile telephones don’t work causing inconvenience to the people as well as security agencies.
Earlier also, the Union Territory administration has been asking telecom service providers for 100 percent connectivity in Ladakh.
However, with intervention of the Lieutenant Governor and his meeting with representatives of telecom companies providing services in Ladakh, sources expressed confidence that services will improve and there will be 100 percent connectivity shortly.
During his stay in New Delhi, Mathur also met Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of various companies and discussed with them the introduction of electric cars and additional e-buses in the Union Territory of Ladakh.
“In a meeting with @mahuaacharya, CEO @ConvergenceCESL, @EESL-India, LG RK Mathur held discussions on introducing electric cars in Ladakh and additional e-buses,” another tweet by the Office of the Lt Governor Ladakh said.
Mathur also discussed a 5 MW Mini Grid pilot project at Zanskar in Kargil district of Ladakh to meet power and heating needs.
In yet another meeting, Mathur called on Prof V Ram Gopalrao, Director IIT New Delhi to discuss with him the setting up of Kargil Engineering College.
The Union Territory of Ladakh administration has already set up a high-level Committee for the Kargil Engineering College.
Yesterday, Mathur had met Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and took up with him the issues like affiliation of the UT’s schools with Central Board of School Education and setting up more Kendriya Vidyalayas and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas.
He had also called on Union Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) Dr Jitendra Singh.
Soon after the meeting, Dr Jitendra Singh had announced setting up of Civil Services Examination Centre for the Union Territory of Ladakh at Leh.
