LEH, Apr 7: District Level Inter-Zone Football Competition 2018 under the scheme ‘Let’s Play’ co-branded with Khelo India concluded today at Govt. Boys Higher Secondary School, here today.
Executive Councillor Health / Youth Services & Sports LAHDC Leh Gyal P. Wangyal was the chief guest.
The competition was held among 20 teams of 5 zones in three categories of under-12, under-16 and under-19 of both boys and girls teams.
In the final matches held today, in under-12 category, boys’ team of Leh zone won with 7-1 goals, while girls’ team of Leh zone won with 2-1 goals.
Similarly, in under-16 category, boys’ team of Leh zone won with 2-0 goals while girls’ team of Leh zone won with 3-0 goals.
In under-19 category, boys’ team of Nyoma zone won with 3-1 goals and girls’ team of Nubra won with 4-0 goals.
The winning teams will now participate in the district level tournaments at Srinagar or Jammu.
Addressing the large gathering of participating students, players, coaches, teachers and local audience, EC Wangyal appreciated the participating students for taking part in the tournament and encouraged them to maintain the sportsmanship spirit. He appreciated the active participation of girl players and asked the entire team of players to concentrate in excelling in one particular field of game.
EC said that there is every possibility that proposal for rise in funds under the district plan for the purpose of procuring sport equipment is likely to get approval in the coming Council meet to be held on the 11th and 12th of this month.
He further said that proposal for lying of synthetic turf at the play ground of the Govt. boys school has been forwarded to the J&K Sports Council so that this ground can be used mainly for playing football.
He further said that Sports Council has opened up a branch of J&K Football Academy in Leh where they coach and select players for playing further. He asked the interested players to avail the opportunity.
