DODA, Jan 2: A leopard was captured by experts from Department of Wildlife at village Beoli of the district.
Acting swiftly on information about the wild animal straying near residential area, officials from Department of Wildlife caught a leopard at Beoli village today early morning.
When contacted, Wildlife Warden Chenab-Kishtwar Majid Bashir said that they have been receiving complaints from the local residents about the presence of leopard for sometime.
“The wild beast, which has reportedly attacked and killed several cattle of the villagers in the area and was on a prowl since last 10 days was finally trapped in a cage today early morning at village Beoli”, informed Majid Bashir.
Captured leopard has been sent to Kishtwar, where from the leopard will be sent to Manda Zoo in Jammu and will be kept there for the rest of his life, officer said, adding that this is third such catch this year and last year 6 leopards were captured in District Doda.
It is pertinent to mention here that, after recent heavy snowfall in higher reaches of District Doda, wild animals especially leopards have entered in several human habitats triggering fear among the villagers as they claimed that the leopard killed their cattle.
