JAMMU, Mar 7:The State Legislative Assembly today got five new faces as Members of Legislative Council, the elections for which were declared here.
Syed Naeem Akhtar Andrabi is the new elected MLC for Peoples Democratic Party, while Showkat Hussain Ganie and Abdul Majeed have been elected as MLCs for the ruling National Conference, Returning Officer M Ramzan here said.
From Congress, Mohammad Muzaffar Parrey from Kashmir Division and Naresh Kumar Gupta from Doda district were declared elected for the Biennial Election to the Legislative Council.
Mr Ramzan said after the first round, Mr Andrabi secured 19 votes, Mr Ganie 17, Shuban Krishen Dudha nine, Abdul Majeed Bhat 16 and Mr Parrey secured 17 votes.
Mr Andrabi, Mr Ganie, Mr Majeed and Mr Parrey succeeded in getting the required quota to be declared as elected to the Legislative Council.
Similarly, Mr Gupta secured 50 votes and he was also declared elected, he added.
Candidates to the three seats of Jammu were already declared unopposed including Devinder Singh Rana of NC, Rani Gargi Bloeria of Congress and Yashpal Sharma of PDP. (AGENCIES)
