Lecture to remember services of Harji Lal Jad held

JAMMU, Oct 17: Prem Nath Bhat Memorial Trust (PNBMT) organised a lecture to remember the services of community leader from Anantnag, Late Harji Lal Jad, here today.
It is pertinent to mention here that in the year 1986, Lt. Harji Lal Jad played a stellar role in organising the relief and rehabilitation for the riot hit victims of the infamous Anantnag program of the Kashmiri Pandits (KPs).
The function was attended by a large number of intellectuals and members of KP community including the family members of Late Harji Lal Jad including his granddaughter Dr Bhavya Jad and Dr Sunanda Raina, former Principal GMC Jammu.
The noted writer and Padma Shri awardee, KN Pandita was the chief guest, while the function was presided over by Prof. AN Sadhu.
KN Pandita said in his keynote address that the contributions of the late Harji Lal Jad need to be documented for the posterity and a committee in this regard would be framed shortly that would document the life and times of the late leader. He said that the Anantnag riots of 1986 were a full dress rehearsal of the complete exodus of Kashmiri Pandits in 1990. He said that the community needs more leaders like Jad Sahib to take them out of trouble.
Prof. AN Sadhu was lavish in his praise for the late leader and urged upon the younger generations to emulate his courage and character. He added that they need to close our ranks and stay united to face the onslaught of the evil forces.
Chairman of the Trust BL Zar presented the vote of thanks. In his remarks the chairman of the Trust also remembered the contribution of late Makhan Lal, a great social activist. The speakers who made their valuable contributions in the lecture included Brij Lal Bhatt, AK Raina, MK Jalali, Desh Rattan and IK Raina, while the programme was conducted by HL Bhat.
