Lecture on Right to Information Act held at GCW Parade *CIC asks students to act as ambassadors of RTI slogans

JAMMU, Nov 27: Government College for Women (GCW), Parade organized interactive session on Right to Information.
On the occasion, GR Sofi, Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) and Prof SK Sharma, State Information Commissioner (SIC) were the resource persons.
Prof Hemla Aggarwal, Principal, GCW Parade in her welcome address highlighted the need, importance and purpose of the Right to Information Act.
At the outset Prof SK Sharma delivered a detailed lecture on the functioning and various aspects of Right to Information Act 2009 of J&K particularly Section 8 and Section 23 of RTI Act.
In his presidential address GR Sofi informed that the aim and objective of this act is to bring transparency, accountability and good governance.
This act is most revolutionary in its nature in the history of country, he added.
CIC motivated the students to go through and understand this Act and act as ambassadors of RTI slogans.
He also explained the historical aspect of this act and its origin in the countries like Sweden and USA. He highlighted the role played by women particularly Aruna Roy in this area of Right to Information.
Lecture was followed by interaction session, in which various students and teachers participated.
College President Rudra Sharma presented vote of thanks.
