JAMMU, June 24: Vice Chancellor SKUAST-Jammu Dr JP Sharma and Chairman J&K Pollution Control Board (JKPCB) Suresh Chugh inaugurated a larger capacity Sanitary Waste Disposer (SWD) Unit at University’s main campus in Chatha to create awareness among the staff and students of farm varsity regarding sanitary waste management.
B M Sharma, Member Secretary JKPCB, Dr Syed Nadeem Hussain, Regional Director, JKPCB, Anuradha, Scientist JKPCB, Dr RK Gupta, Director Research, Dr Anil Gupta (Medical Officer), all the Statutory officers of SKUAST-J and office bearers of Teaching Association were present on the occasion.
Vice Chancellor SKUAST-J expressed hope that extending of such facility by JKPCB to SKUAST-J will go a long step to encourage Swachh Bharat Mission.
Suresh Chugh informed that this Sanitary Waste Disposer Unit having a capacity of 40 kg of sanitary waste per hour has been installed with the efforts of the Pollution Control Board through M/s Ornate Naturale, Bangalore. BM Sharma informed that this is the largest ever unit installed in Jammu Division by the PCB till date.
President SKUAST-TAJ Dr Vikas Sharma informed that the idea regarding the installation of SWD Unit in SKUAST-Jammu was conceived in Executive Meeting of SKUAST-TAJ in January 2020 and by the continuous efforts of advisor SKUAST-TAJ Professor RK Samnotra, SKUAST-Jammu gets Larger Capacity SWD Unit worth Rs 8,50,000 approximately on complimentary basis. Dr Samnotra briefed that this SWD unit will surely serve as a useful purpose in making Chatha Campus free from pollution and infection.
Later, Anuradha (Scientist JKPCB) made a power point presentation in Vice Chancellor’s Secretariat regarding the functioning of this Larger Capacity SWD Unit.
The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Dr Vikas Sharma and Dr Narinder Panotra whereas the vote of thanks was presented by general secretary of TAJ Dr Vivak M Arya.
