JAMMU, Nov 17: State president, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Tulsi Dass Langeh today stressed upon the State Government to revoke the Resettlement Act of 1983 to avoid further victimization of farmers (local allottees), who have been cultivating the custodian land since 1947 but are devoid of propriety rights.
Moreover, those who are residing in custodian houses have also not been given propriety rights, which is discriminatory treatment and great in justice with the farmers (local alottees), he lamented. Langeh was addressing party leaders meeting held here at party’s State Headquarter.
The BSP leader said that with the division of the country in 1947, those who migrated to India and settled in various parts of the country got full-fledged proprietary and citizenship rights but it is very strange that those who settled in J&K did not get the same so far. Even in some cases the Resettlement Act of 1983 has been misused with the connivance of Revenue authorities, he maintained.
He urged upon the MLAs of Jammu region to rise above the party politics and come at the rescue of these farmers and those who are residing in the custodian houses, by compelling the Government for withdraw of Bill No 9 Resettlement Act of 1983.
It is pertinent to mention here that in case of custodian land allotted to the refugees other than West Pakistani refugees, they will get propriety rights while the farmers (local allottees), who are cultivating the custodian land and those residing in custodian houses have been denied the same.
