MeT forecasts rain, snowfall from Mar 5-7

JAMMU, Mar 3: The vehicular traffic on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remained disrupted for about six hours due to landslides in Peera area of Ramban today while, Meteorological department has predicted rain and snowfall on March 5, 6 and 7.
Official sources said that due to ongoing four-laning work by the Gammon India Ltd and a local contractor- CPP Constructions in Nashri-Ramban stretch, big boulders fell on the highway at around 10 am. The land-sliding caused closure of the busy highway near Peera bridge between Nashri and Ramban.

A massive traffic jam was created on both sides of the highway. It took long time for the local contractors and the machinery of the NHAI to clear the debris/ boulders from the highway. The road could be restored at around 4 pm and a large number of stranded passengers and other road users had tough time during this period. Even after road opening, it took over two hours to the traffic and local police authorities at Ramban to deal with the traffic jamming problem.
Meanwhile, a spokesman from Earth Science, India Meteorology Centre, Srinagar has predicted moderate rain and snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir and scattered places of Ladakh from March 5 to 7.
He said that light rain and snow would occur at a few places of Kashmir Division on March 5, morning and thereafter, in intensity and distribution with its main activity on March 6 and 7.
The spokesman further said that there is possibility of thunder-storm, hail and strong winds at 30 to 40 Km per hour in the plains of Jammu division and few places of Kashmir during the period.
