JAMMU, Sept 3: All the newly elected 26 Councilors of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Kargil would be administered oath of office and secrecy on September 7.
Reliable sources said that a formal order in this regard was issued by Election Authority, Kargil stating that the oath ceremony shall be administered by District and Sessions Judge, Tahir Khurshid Raina on September 7 at 11.30 am. “The function will be held at the main auditorium of the Town hall”, sources asserted.
Elaborating further on the process over the constitution of Council, sources said the Deputy Commissioner, Kargil Fida Hussain had issued the notification yesterday announcing formal election of the 26 Councilors.
“As per the laid down rules, the Ladakh Affairs Department now has to issue an order within 15 days (till September 17) calling on the political parties to prove their majority in the elected Council”, sources asserted.
The LAHDC Kargil has strength of 30 and 26 of them are elected while the Government had the powers to nominate four members of different categories to the Council. However, the nominated members didn’t have the voting right.
Sources said both NC and Congress would require support of the Independent candidates to secure simple majority of 14 members in the Council. While NC led alliance with 12 seats would require support of two neutral Independent candidates, Congress with 11 seats would need support of all three neutral Independents to take majority.
