Ladakh to get solar park

NEW DELHI, July 24:
Power supply in Ladakh is expected to be augmented with the Government planning to set up one solar park  in the region.
Replying a query during Question Hour in the Lok Sabha, New and Renewable Energy Minister Piyush Goyal said a memorandum of  understanding has been signed between the Central and Jammu and  Kashmir Governments for the purpose.    He said the Leh and Ladakh regions have great potential of renewable energy and the regions have been covered under the Central Government schemes for green energy sector.    However, he said the Government needs the support of State Governments and local people primarily related to land acquisition.
A scheme of solar pumping which would help lift water for irrigation would be formulated soon for Leh and Ladakh region, the Minister added.
Responding to a supplementary, Mr Goyal said it was a “matter of concern” that the renewable energy generation in West Bengal  was very less.
He urged the State Government to provide waste land on which renewable projects could be set up. He said he had a meeting Chief  Minister Mamata Banerjee on setting up renewable energy projects.    Mr Goyal said steps have been initiated to set up a solar park in the State.
Answering another query, the Minister said a detailed project report(DPR) has been preparing for setting up solar panels mounted
on the roof tops of houses in Himachal Pradesh.    The Minister said the Government could consider putting up solar park in the State if the State provided a land. (UNI)
