JAMMU, July 24: Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Sham Lal Sharma today laid foundation for developing village Gurah Brahmna West as Model Village.
The Model village project, envisaging development of modern civic amenities and other facilities, would involve an estimated cost of Rs. 1.56 crore.
He said the Model village project aims at to improve living conditions in the remote and backward areas by creating civic infrastructure on modern lines, besides making available facilities required for promotion of local economy and employment.
Sham Lal said that the Government has introduced several welfare schemes and programmes, which have been instrumental in changing the socio-economic profile of the people, besides ensuring sustained development of the state. He said the developmental programmes have been introduced on equitable basis without giving any preferential treatment to any particular area.
The Minister said that focused attention has been given to ensure that the benefits of various schemes reach to genuine beneficiaries. He said that people should come forward and avail the benefit of these programmes as by doing so they would be exhibiting a participatory role in day to day governance which forms the basis of the democratic set up.
