Leh, Feb 3: Divisional Commissioner Ladakh, Saugat Biswas convened a meeting to review the stocking position and shortages of essential commodities in Leh and Kargil districts and to ascertain availability for the next three months at Leh today.
The Divisional Commissioner enquired about the existing stock of essential
commodities with the Cooperative Department, Cooperative Associations, Merchant Association and Wholesaler Association of Leh and Kargil. He directed the DC, Kargil and ADC, Leh to execute a market survey mechanism to ascertain a data on monthly consumption and total off take in market of the essential commodities like salt, sugar, tomato puree, onion, mutton, dal, ghee etc.
He added that based on this survey report shortages will be addressed by air lifting the required commodity. The purchases will be made by the merchant Association with the consent of the respective LAHDCs.
Biswas asked the Deputy Commissioners to ensure close monitoring of the market by Cooperative CAPD and Merchant Associations and that no hoarding of material takes place. He instructed the DCs to take meetings with the members of Merchant Associations to ensure a proper system in place to have adequate stocking of essential commodities in the districts of Leh and Kargil for the next 3 months which he stressed is very crucial.
Direction was also given to the CAPD Department to give a daily report of availabilities of essential commodities to the Divisional Commissioner and both the Deputy Commissioners.
The meeting was attended by Director Cooperative, Anil Koul, ADC, Leh Zahida
Bano, AD CA&PD Sherab Gyaltson, Presidents of Merchant and Wholeseler Association from Leh. DC/CEO LAHDC, Kargil, Baseer Ul Haq Choudhary, officers from Cooperative Department and President Merchant Association Kargil also attended the meeting through video conferencing. Amir Ali, Coordinator, Kargil Courier Service also attended the meeting through video conferencing.
