Ladakh delegation calls on Governor, highlights socio-economic problems

JAMMU, Mar 6: A delegation on behalf of trade and service sector of Ladakh led by Chering Dorjay, Minister for Cooperatives and Ladakh Affairs, met Governor N.N. Vohra at the Raj Bhavan and apprised him about the socio-economic problems faced by the people of Ladakh.
The delegation requested incorporation of necessary safeguards through the GST Act such as reducing GST rates on all supplies and goods & services to the Ladakh region be put under the minimum tax slab of 5%, with complete Input Tax Credit; increasing GST exemption for the Scheduled Tribe residents of  Ladakh to a minimum of Rs. 40 lakh turnover; all goods and services supply in Ladakh region be made eligible for composition levy scheme upto a turnover of Rs. 1.5 crore; e-filing by residents of Ladakh during the lay-off period of 6-7 months be exempted; removal of Upshi Check Post; and continue exemption to hotel and travel trade services under the SGST tax.
Further the delegation requested that services sector be brought within the ambit of the “Jammu and Kashmir Reimbursement of Taxes for promotion of Small/Medium/ Large Scale Industries in the State of Jammu and Kashmir”.
Governor advised the delegation to have an early meeting with Finance Minister before the matter is mooted to the Centre.
The members of the delegation included Thupstan Chhewang, Member Parliament; Nawang Rigzin Jora, MLA Leh; Riyaz Ahmad, President Merchant Association Leh; Tanyot Tashi, President Contractor Association, Leh; Tselon Angchok, President All Leader Tour Operators Association, Leh; Ashraf Ali, President All Kargil Travel Trade and Association, Kargil and Tashi Motup Kau, President All Ladakh Hotel and Guest House Association.
Hakim Mohd. Yaseen, MLA Khansahib also called on Governor and informed him about the varied concerns and difficulties arising from challenges to security maintenance in the Valley.
Governor urged Yaseen to continue his endeavours for promoting peace, normalcy and development of his area.
