Cong leader Chopra passes away

JAMMU, Mar 6: District Congress Committee (DCC) Jammu Urban president, Anil Chopra passed away after brief illness in a hospital at Ludhiana during early hours today.
He was 62, and is survived by wife and two sons.
Family sources said that Chopra was admitted to DMC Hospital, Ludhiana  on  February 10  after a paralytic attack and his condition was deteriorating for the last few days.  He breathed his last at around 1.40 am today. His body was brought back to his home at Bakshinagar, Jammu and cremation took place at around 4.30 pm at Jogi Gate Cremation Ground.
A large number of people from all walks of life besides senior Congress/ BJP  leaders including  PCC chief Ghulam Ahmed Mir, State BJP chief  Sat Sharma, MLC Ramesh Arora,  CLP leader Nawang Rigzin Jora, PCC senior vice president  Sham Lal Sharma, former ministers- Raman Bhalla, Mula Ram, Yogesh Sawhney and others attended the funeral of late Chopra.
Nephew of former Cong MLA  Om Chopra, brother-in-law of former minister Yogesh Sawhney  and son of freedom fighter and staunch Congressman,  late  Dharamveer Chopra,  late Chopra was also Chairman of  Jammu Minibus/ Matador  Union  and a noted social activists as well. He was associated with the Congress for the last four decades and remained at different positions in the party.
AICC president Rahul Gandhi has expressed deep shock over the sad demise of Jammu DCC president Anil Chopra. In his condolence message,  Gandhi conveyed heartfelt condolences to the family and prayed for peace to the departed soul.
Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha,  Ghulam Nabi Azad has also  expressed his deep sorrow on the untimely death of   Anil Chopra.
“Death of Anil Chopra, a dedicated, honest and upright Congress leader, is shocking. Anil  was an asset for the party. His demise has created a vacuum in Jammu Congress which shall take a long time to fill. I am saddened and pray to God that his soul may rest in peace”,  Azad said.
AICC general secretary  and Incharge J&K affairs of the party, Ambika Soni has also expressed deep shock over the untimely demise of Anil Chopra and conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
