REASI, July 19: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J) observed the 89th Foundation Day of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) at Talwara village, here today.
A large number of farmers’ participated enthusiastically in the programme.
The programme was organized under the guidance of Associate Director Extension & In-charge of KVKs of SKUAST-Jammu, Dr RK Arora.
Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi, Dr Banarsi Lal presented welcome address to start the programme.
While speaking on the occasion, the dignitaries highlighted the achievements of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) for the growth and development of the farmers in the country and abroad.
They said that the ICAR is one of the largest national agricultural systems in the world with 101 ICAR institutes and 71 agricultural universities spread across the nation, adding that the ICAR has played a pioneering role in ushering Green Revolution and subsequent agricultural developments and research across the country.
They highlighted the ICAR achievements and said that from 1951 it has increased the production of food grains by 5 times, horticultural crops by 9.5 times, fish by 14.3 times, milk 9.6 times and eggs 47.5 times through its research and technology and thus making a visible impact on the national food and nutritional security.
Dr Arora informed the farmers that presently the ICAR has established 673 KVKs across the nation and these KVKs are mitigating the scientific agricultural needs of the farmers and are helping in human resource development in agriculture and allied sectors.
The programme was assisted by Manohar Lal, while the programme was concluded by Dr Banarsi Lal with the vote of thanks.
