RS PURA, Feb 13: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Jammu, in collaboration with Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi under IARI-Post Linkage Model, organized a one-day programme on ‘Scientific cultivation of wheat’ here at Krishi Vigyan Kendra.
Under the programme, the seeds of high yielding varieties were distributed to the farmers through village Postman at their doorstep. As the Rabi season is going on, quality seeds of improved wheat varieties HD 2967 and HD 2985 and Mustard NPJ 113 were distributed among the farmers of the area.
A training programme was also organized for capacity building of farmers and postal staff in improved crop production technologies. More than 100 farmers and farm women participated in the training programme.
Superintendent of Post, Jammu, JR Angural, was the chief guest in the inaugural session of the training programme. The welcome address was given by Programme Coordinator, KVK, RS Pura, Dr Sanjay Swami.
In his address, Angural praised the efforts of IARI and KVK, RS Pura for initiating this innovative approach and assured every support from Postal Department.
Senior Scientist, Division of Agricultural Extension, IARI, Dr R Roy Burman briefed the farmers and postal staff about the rationale of the project. He informed that 90% of the Post Offices in the country are rural Post Offices, which can help disseminating farm technologies to the farmers.
The scientists of KVK namely Dr Anil Kumar Sharma, DR PK Rai, Dr Prem Kumar, Dr Dipak Kumar Srivastava and Dr Vinod Gupta, addressed the farmers on various topics.
