JAMMU, June 28: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, R S Pura Jammu, under the aegis of SKUAST-Jammu has been conferred with Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Krishi Vigyan Protsahan Puraskar (Zonal level) for the year 2017.
The award consists of cash prize of Rs 2.25 lakh, including Rs 1.50 lakh for equipments and Rs 0.75 lakh for training of KVK staff. KVK Jammu has been selected among 78 KVKs of North zone working under the administrative control of Directorate of ICAR-ATARI, Zone-I, Ludhiana.
The award has been instituted by the Government of India to mark the birth centenary year of the Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay, a pioneer of Antyodaya to promote healthy competition among Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) at zonal and national level for application of science and technology in agriculture and to provide incentives for improving the efficiency and performance of KVKs for espousing the cause of farming community.
