Kupwara villages without drinking water

Srinagar, Nov 27: The residents of Thendipora and Dardpora villages of Kralpora block in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district are facing scarcity of drinking water for last 10 days owing to the failure of Public Health and Engineering Department to fix the damaged water supply line connecting the areas.
The residents of the villages told Excelsior that the undue delay in the restoration of the water supply line has caused the worst water crisis in the areas. “There is no alternative source of water. Our taps have run dry and department is doing nothing to tackle the issue,” Abdul Rasheed, a local said.
The residents informed that the water supply of the villages stopped after the supply line got damaged during the construction of an irrigation canal. “They should have made alternate arrangements before dislodging the water pipes. What are we supposed to do now,” another resident said, including they were forced to travel several kilometers to fetch water?
The locals said that they have raised the issue with the department but faced disappointment. “The department is showing helplessness. They want us to wait until construction work is finished. How can we live without water?” another resident, asked.
They appealed the PHE department to pay attention to the area and restore the water supply without further delay.
