SRINAGAR, June 10: Vice Chancellor of University of Kashmir Prof Khurshid Iqbal Andrabi visited Leh and Kargil satellite campuses of the varsity to review preparations for start of class work there from the current academic session.
During his two-day extensive tour, the Vice Chancellor inspected academic blocks, hostels and staff quarters at both the campuses. He was accompanied by a team of senior officers from the University including Registrar Prof Zaffar Ahmad Reshi, Special Secretary to the Vice Chancellor, Dr M S Sumbli, Executive Engineer Mufti Burhan Shah and his field engineers, Accounts Officer and some other officials of the administration.
The Vice Chancellor directed officials to ensure that requisite furniture and allied infrastructure is put in place ahead of the commencement of class work and that proper sanitation is maintained in and around the campuses.
Prof Andrabi said the essence of establishing satellite campuses in Leh and Kargil, and elsewhere, is to take higher education to the doorsteps of its aspirants in far-off areas.
“We are committed to provide quality education in these campuses and see to it that we have adequate teaching and non-teaching staff in place there,” he said and added that recruitment of staff for the campuses has already started.
