KU VC for preservation of cultural heritage of Kashmir

SRINAGAR, Dec 5: Vice Chancellor, University of Kashmir (KU), Prof Talat Ahmad today emphasized the need for preservation of cultural heritage of Kashmir and disseminate the information regarding the same among general public by publishing and projecting the research findings on the various aspects relating to Kashmir Studies.
He was presiding at a lecture entitled ‘from Postcolonial to the Trans-cultural History of Science’ organised by UNESCO Madanjeet Singh Institute of Kashmir Studies, at KU campus here.
Prof Talat said that UNESCO Madanjeet Singh Institute of Kashmir Studies, is a vital unit of the University and actively involved in conducting research in the fields of language, literature, art, culture, religion, philosophy and other region specific disciplines falling within the scope of the objectives of the Society. While touching the theme of the event, Prof Talat said that we as a country have to contribute in a big way in Science and Technology. He emphasized on intellectual work, which pushes the nations forward.
Earlier, Prof Sidiq Wahid, Director, Madanjeet Singh Institute of Kashmir Studies, KU, talked at length about the growth and establishment of (MJS-IKS) and said that there are sixteen scholarships available under Madanjeet Singh Scholarship (SAF) scheme for all the eight SAARC countries.
Earlier, Prof Dhruv Raina from School of Social Sciences, JNU, New Delhi, gave a presentation on the theme ‘From Post-colonial to Trans-Cultural History of Science’. While interacting with the students, scholars and academia, he talked about the history of Science as a modern discipline and how it has its own tools and theories for interpretation as well.
PDP spokesperson, Naeem Akhter, CPI (M) leader, Mohd Yousuf Tarigami, besides some Deans, Head of the Departments and Directors of the Centres, were present during the event.
