JAMMU, May 13: A meeting of Kashmiri Pandits was held here today under the leadership of Pinto Ji in which the Government was urged to declare the Zeasht Ashtami on which the annual Mata Kheer Bhawani Mela is held a restricted holiday in Jammu as well as entire KP community is putting up outside the Valley since their mass exodus in 1989-90 so that they can participate in celebrations here also.
As per a release, the meeting said the devotees going for pilgrimage to Mata Kheer Bhawani Tulmulla and other places in Valley should not accept the free transport from Government and go by their own. It said the money spent on transportation of Pandits to Valley be spent on the welfare of the community in camps.
The meeting also asked the pilgrims intending to have pilgrimage of holy shrine at Tulmulla not to be swayed by the sympathies shown by separatists groups during yatra as they have been exposed after opposing the composite township for Pandits in Valley and after demanding the curtailment of holy Amarnath yatra.
