KPS discusses issue regarding celebration of religious festivals

JAMMU, May 26: Kashmiri Pandit Sabha (KPS), Ambphalla held a meeting to discuss the controversial issue regarding the celebration of religious festivals by the KP community.
The meeting was presided over by KP Sabha President KK Khosa and attended among others by Pt. Omkar Nath Shastri and Pt Puneet ji and members from Satisar Foundation.
While speaking on the occasion, Prof AK Ogra emphasized on the need of technical help and framing of apps devoted to religious festivals.
Dr Sushil Wattal implored the almanac publishers to arrive at a consensus and give the community a single date to diffuse the confusion which was created during recent Shivratri celebrations.
Sanjay Raina spoke at length about the true significance of Herath fortnight and explained the genesis of Herath which is specifically a Kashmiri Pandit festival.
Kamlesh Tufchi of Satisar Foundation also spoke about true significance of Herath and insisted on not diluting the basis of Herath and other festivals.
Pushkar Ji, a noted scholar insisted on almanac publishers to resolve their differences and come to a consensus on this contentious issue.
BL Saraf, Retd District and Session Judge agreed on the significance of the festival where even Jabar Jhand had to acknowledge the importance of Herath when to his surprise snowfall took place in July when the king had forced the community Herath to celebrate Herath on deferred dates.
Others luminaries who spoke on the occasion include Prof GL Kaul (PoshBab Ashram) Advocate Kashmiri Lal Bhat, LD Kaul (Kheer Bhawani), Chuni Lal Bhat (Prab Can. Tral), Dr RK Ganju President Brahaman Maha Mandal, Ravinder Raina President ASKPC, AK Braroo, senior Vice President and HN Tiku.
The house resolved and authorized the KP Sabha President to form a committee including representatives of almanac publishers and few others for publishing the date on which a particular festival falls and it would be binding on everyone.
Besides Executive Committee, Pushkar Nath, (Swyamanand Ashram), Dileep Pandita (President Bader Kali Trust), Bushan Lal Handoo, Ravinder Tickoo, Rajinder Pandita and many others were present in the meeting.
KK Khosa concluded the proceedings, while the programme was conducted by SL Bagati General Secretary of the Sabha.
