KPs demand Commission of Inquiry to probe mass exodus

JAMMU, June 14: Kashmiri Pandits have demanded immediate Confidence Building Measures (CBMs) be taken for their rehabilitation and resettlement in their homeland, Kashmir where from they have been hounded out over 32 years back.
In this regard a memorandum was submitted to Union Minister of State for Home, G K Reddy by a group of social activists of the community led by Dr Ramesh Kumar Bhat during his visit here, yesterday. It highlighted various steps which the Government of India can take for confidence building that included constitution of Commission of Inquiry headed by Supreme Court Judge to look into the forced exodus of KPs , Passage of Shrines and Temples Bill, Passage of Distress Sale Abrogation Bill to handover immovable property of KPs which they were having in 1990 back to them and restoration of security pickets/ posts in 150 minority habitations in Kashmir disbanded after disturbances in 2016-17.
The memorandum said that these security posts were established on the directives of then Home Minister, L K Advani after the massacre of Nadimarg in 2002. The memorandum among other things demanded due share in employment to displaced KPs both in Centre and State Government departments, providing of accommodation to PM package employees and ending of discrimination in their promotions, disbursement of withheld compensation sanctioned for the burnt and looted property in the Valley with compensation to damaged houses, enhancement of monthly cash relief up to Rs 25,000 and initiation of dialogue with representatives of Kashmiri Hindus.
