Kotwal reviews progress of restoration works

JAMMU, Oct 27: A review meeting to assess the progress of restoration works, damaged during recent floods was conducted by Dr Pawan Kotwal, Commissioner/Secretary to Government, PHE/I&FC Department at PWD Guest House, Gandhi Nagar.
The meeting was attended by Chief Engineer (CE), Irrigation and Flood Control Department, CE, RTIC Jammu and officers of PHE Department, I&FC Department and RTIC, Jammu.
The chairman was informed by the CE, I&FC Department, Jammu that under temporary restoration in Irrigation and Flood Sector, 728 spots have been restored and 1458 spots are in progress out of total 3238 damaged spots. An amount of Rs 160.91 crore is immediately required for making payment in respect of works already completed or in progress out of which Rs 29.91 crore under SDRF has already been made available to the department, CE said.
As regards temporary restoration of works pertaining to RTIC, Jammu, the Chairman was informed by the Chief Engineer, RTIC, Jammu that 90 spots have been restored and 7 spots are in progress out of total 167 damaged spots. An amount of Rs 362.31 lakh is required for completed or in progress works. However, only an amount of Rs 90.53 lakh has so far been received under SDRF.
Regarding temporary restoration of civil works of PHE Department the Superintending Engineer, Mechanical Circle, Jammu, informed the Chairman that 1285 schemes have been restored fully and 377 schemes are in progress out of 1662 damaged schemes while in Mechanical Works, 531 spots have been restored fully whereas 69 spots are in progress out of 599 damaged spots.
The Chairman directed the concerned CEs to projectize the permanent restoration works and put all major prioritized works to e-tenders within a day or two positively so that the process of permanent restoration of the works is started. The Chairman further directed to mark the highest flood level on all the major structures viz bridges on river Chenab; Tawi; Ujh; Nowshera Tawi; Suran river and Basanter/Devak  rivers.
The Chairman impressed upon all the officers or executing agencies to complete all the temporary restoration works well within the time frame and if there are any bottlenecks the same be projected to the Administrative Department.
