Kottan-Lanjot Water Scheme

Border areas are needed to be accorded priority in every sphere of development, not to speak of the basic requirements of drinking water, power and roads. Residents of Mendhar numbering over 2000 comprising 6 Panchayats are facing difficulties on account of non-availability of drinking water. Due to the sheer neglect of the Public Health Engineering Department in not having bothered to fix the problems in the water lift scheme which was established in the area of Mendhar division of Poonch district, the residents face problems of the basic need of water. The status of the Water Scheme known as Kottan- Lanjot has been non functional for two years in a row.
Are government funds being misused by the PHE /Jal Shakti Department in this border area is what most of the residents complain. The anger in the suffering residents is to an extent of having the working of the PHE/JS Department investigated so that proper action could be taken against the concerned employees. While the official version is entirely different from what is alleged, what was needed was to restore water supply to the affected people and have proper investigations into the irregularities as suspected and complained about by the residents.
