JAMMU, Apr 1: The Minister of State for Transport, Rural Development and Horticulture, Abdul Ghani Kohli convened a meeting to review the functioning of the department here today.
Secretary, Transport, Bashir Ahmed Khan, IG Traffic Police, J P Singh, Transport Commissioner, Dilshada Khan, MD, SRTC, J S Tandon, RTO Jammu and senior officers of the concerned departments were present in the meeting.
The Minister held a threadbare review of the steps taken to improve the functioning of the department and strengthen the service delivery mechanism. He stressed on adequate measures for streamlining the traffic and exhorted the need of proper monitoring and close coordination among the concerned agencies.
He directed for improving the service delivery mechanism by introducing on line facilities for seeking license and other services. He asked for taking up the issue of installation of GPS System in the commercial and passenger vehicles for proper monitoring. He also directed the concerned to maintain proper check that meters are installed in auto rickshaws to ensure that the passengers are not overcharged.
The Minister directed the concerned officers to ensure proper mechanism is put in place to check traffic congestion in Jammu City especially at Bus Stand. He directed them to ensure there is no idle parking at the Bus Stand which causes chaos and inconvenience to the people.
The Minister also called for making the ISBT functional for proper traffic management. Mr. Kohli also reviewed the functioning of SRTC department and sought status report on vehicles and staff, he said that all efforts will be made to improve the functioning of the department.
