Kohli attends FAME meet at Delhi

NEW DELHI, Dec 10: Minister for Transport Abdul Gani Kohli attended a high level meeting on Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electrical Vehicles (FAME) convened by the Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Anant Geete at NDMC Convention Centre.
Among others Transport Ministers of various States, Secretary Deptt. of Heavy Industries, Additional Secretary, and other senior officers attended the meeting.
The Union Minister informed that Government of India approved the National Mission on Electric Mobility in 2011 and subsequently National Electric Mobility Mission Plan 2020 was unveiled in 2013. He further said that as a part of the Mission, DHI has formulated a Scheme namely FAME India, adding that the overall scheme is proposed to be implemented over a period of six years till 2020.
The Union Minister said that the scheme will have four focus areas i.e. Technology, Development, Demand and Creation, Pilot Projects and Changing Infrastructure and Phase -1 of the Scheme will be implemented over a period of 2 years i.e. 2015-2017 all over the country.
He said that the demand incentive will be available for buyers and users/consumers in the form of an upfront reduction purchase price to enable wider adoption, multiple purchase by single buyer/corporate entity, inter-alia are also allowed.
While appreciating the efforts of the Union Government for extending the scheme for Jammu and Kashmir State, Abdul Gani Kohli, said that Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (hybrid &) Electric Vehicles Scheme is a necessity to cater to the ever rising demand in the automobile sector, with alternate sources of energy which are eco-friendly yet cost-effective. He said that the State is ecologically sensitive and timely interventions are required to preserve the environment by use of eco friendly sources of energy.
Mr. Kohli strongly advocated setting up of a manufacturing unit in J&K where the incentives, as announced by the Union Minister, are also available under the Scheme FAME. He said that J&K will encourage the introduction of Hybrid and Electric Buses to augment the Public Transport in an Eco-friendly way.
