‘Will be taken to next level with AIF help’

JAMMU, Aug 7: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha is reported to have said that use of Kissan drones is being promoted for crop assessment, digitization of land records and other agricultural processes in Jammu and Kashmir.
He reportedly said this while addressing seventh Governing Council meeting of NITI Aayog in New Delhi which was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and attended by many Union Ministers, Chief Ministers of States and Lieutenant Governors of Union Territories, according to sources.
“Use of Kissan Drones is being promoted for crop assessment, digitization of land records, spraying of insecticides, nutrients and precision of Agricultural processes,” Sinha said, as per the sources.
He asserted that it can be taken to the next level with the help from Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF).
“We have also decided to increase the coverage of oilseeds in Rabi season by bringing additional area under oilseeds and increasing it to 1.41 lakh hectare which is an increase of 161.13 percent,” the Lieutenant Governor is understood to have said.
He said focus of the Government in Jammu and Kashmir was diversification of crops since integrative approach of farming has already been initiated,
“The Government is promoting agro-based employment generating activities,” he added.
Sinha, according to sources, said the Government has shifted from commodity-based to the product-based approach to be relevant in national and international markets.
Only few days back, Parameswaran Iyer, CEO of NITI Aayog met Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha in Srinagar.
During the meeting, the CEO and the Lt Governor discussed a range of issues dealing with development of Jammu & Kashmir UT.
The Lt Governor said that J&K UT Government has taken steps to strengthen the democratic system at the grassroots level, public participation in the development process, inclusive, qualitative education, easy accessibility of public services, self-employment opportunities for the youth and taking industries to the block level for equitable development and ensuring that the benefits of the development reach the last person in the queue.
