RS PURA, Nov 5: J&K Kissan Congress has launched a scathing attack on the Centre’s new farm legislation, accusing the BJP-led Government of meting out “step-motherly” treatment with the farming community.
In this connection, Ch Gharu Ram, chairman J&K Kissan Congress called a meeting of senior Congress leaders to discuss the issues being faced by the farmers throughout the country due to the anti-farmers policies of PM Modi Government.
In the meeting, the senior Congress leaders Mula Ram vice president, Rajinder Singh Chib, former minister, Hari Singh Chib DCC Rural president, Suman Bhagat, Pawan Raina Secretary, Karan Bhagat and Rajesh Motten were also present.
Congress leaders said the farmer’s agitation across the country against the new farm laws could lead to serious consequences for national security. They said farmers were protesting as the new Central laws will destroy them and snatch their livelihoods.
“The Central Government claims that these laws are for the benefit of farming community, but they must understand if farmers are unhappy, what is the worth of these legislations then as the new farm laws will not only hit them but labourers and small shopkeepers will also be impacted,” the senior Congress leaders said.
They expressed apprehension that the Centre’s farm reforms would pave a way for dismantling of the Minimum Support Price system, leaving them at the “mercy” of big corporates. And the proof is that the farmer has been forced to sell their crops below the MSP as they have no other option because they are getting the adequate price. They said that the farmers have lost faith in the BJP-led Central Government as it passed the Bills that were totally against the best interest of the farming sectors and land owners. They said the new Farm Bills must be withdrawn as they are not beneficial for farmers.
Among others who were present in the meeting included Santosh Manhas, Manjeet Singh, Mohinder Choudhary, Jatinder Bhagat, Sachin Gupta, Ravinder Singh, Bachan Singh, Gurdyal Singh, Ajaib Motten, Prem Chand, Mohan Lal, Gagan Singh, Sham Mehra, Sahil Sharma, Neeraj Choudhary and Ankush Raina.
