JAMMU, Dec 27: A meeting of the Grievance Redressal Committee constituted by the Government in the Finance Department was held here today under the chairmanship of Financial Commissioner, Finance Department Iqbal Khandey.
The Excise Commissioner, Vaneeta Gupta, Commissioner Commercial Taxes Kifayat Hussain Rizvi, Special Secretary, Finance Zubair Ahmed, Deputy Commissioner Commercial Taxes (HQ) Showkat Aijaz, President Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Jammu Y.V. Sharma, President, Federation of Chamber of Industries, Kashmir, Zahoor Ahmed Bhat, Secretary General, Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Bilal Ahmed and President, Retailers & Traders Federation, Jammu Yashpal Gupta, attended the meeting.
During the course of the meeting, the representatives of trade and commerce projected various issues and flagged certain grievances for consideration of the Committee. The representatives, at the outset, sought inclusion of representatives in the Committee from Traders Associations and Tax Bar Associations.
The main issues discussed in the meeting included minimizing of the seizure of goods at Checkpost Lakhanpur, classification of goods to remove ambiguity and unnecessary harassment, streamlining of submission of form VAT 65, updation of records of registration certificates of the dealers at Lakhanpur Checkpost, granting of amnesty to the industrial units on the same analogy of amnesty extended to traders, referring the seizure cases from Checkpost Lakhanpur to concerned circles at Kashmir and Jammu for disposal and various other issues.
Mr. Khandey while interacting with the representatives assured that all the points discussed in the meeting will be examined threadbare and with all seriousness and outcome of the same will be intimated to all the concerned in due course of time. Instructions have also been issued for minute examination of various issues pointed out in the meeting in reference to the relevant laws.
Responding to the demands of the traders’ fraternity, the Financial Commissioner asked Commissioner Commercial Taxes to hold a meeting of representatives of trade and industry at Checkpost Lakhanpur in which the officers of the Checkpost should also participate so that a healthy interaction was held to sort-out issues.
