SRINAGAR, Feb 17: A delegation of Kashmir Economic Alliance headed by its chairman Mohammad Yaseen Khan called on the Governor NN Vohra on Wednesday and raised the series of issues including rehabilitation of traders affected by floods that hit Kashmir Valley in September 2014.
A spokesman of KEA said that at the very outset of the meeting while initiating the discussions, the chairman Mohammad Yaseen Khan expressed grave concern on the unabated killings of civilians and unarmed youth particularly in the backdrop of recent killings of youth in district pulwama.
“The Governor was also apprised about the harassment of Kashmiri students studying outside the State, in this respect his attention was drawn towards the recent happenings at JNU and was requested to use his offices to ensure their safety under all circumstances,” she said.
The Governor was informed that the floods in 2014 drastically devastated the business property and infrastructure in the Valley as he being the Governor of the State was himself aware of the facts therefore the package given by the Centre in respect of flood was “like rubbing salt to the injuries”.
“Mere Rs 800 crores as interest subvention against Rs 40000 crores loss suffered by the business community is a crude joke. However governor was informed that those flood victims having no borrowings from bank and who are mainly small traders have been left high and dry,” the delegation told the Governor.
The Governor passed on directions for release of the pending payments by the end of this financial year that is 31st of March 2016, the KEA spokesman said.
He was further informed that the projects for making Mughal Road and Sinthan road, Doda-Kapran road, Violo tunnel, connecting Rajouri, Poonch, Doda, Kishtiwar and Badherwah with Srinagar, be fully made functional and accessible throughout the year.
