JAMMU, Sept 6: With the objective of creating awareness regarding osteoporosis in general public, a lecture was delivered after conducting Free Bone Mineral Density Test on over 100 persons of different age group at KC Mediplex.
In the lecture, Dr Bias Dev, Consultant orthopedic and spine surgeon told the audience about the prevention, symptoms and treatment of the osteoporosis a condition which largely stay unsymptomtic to many.
He told to the audience that Osteoporosis is a condition in which the bones gradually become weak and almost half of the female population above SO is affected with it. The vast majority of the patients remain unaware of the condition till one suffers a small fall which produces fracture in the individual. Persistent Backache, loss of height and stooping posture are other features which develop gradually, he added.
“This condition is preventable if an individual builds a good bone stock during adolescence and early adulthood through good amount of physical activities and a balanced diet. If the same regimen is followed in adulthood the chances of developing osteoporosis decrease. Once an individual develops osteoporosis, he/she has to stay vigilant to prevent fractures and need to take oral or injectable medicines,” he stated.
Dr Bias Dev also emphasized that soft drinks, smoking, packaged food, liquor, sedentary habits contribute for having osteoporosis.
The lecture was attended by people from different walks of life, patients and staff of KC Mediplex.
On this occasion Dr Shafiqa, Gynaecologist spoke on menopausal osteoporosis.
The Consultants Dr Hardeep Kumar, Neurologist, Dr Om Prakash ENT Specialist and Dr Vinod Raina were present.
Abhimanyu Choudhary felicitated and thanked all the contributors of this camp and told that it will be a regular event in KC Mediplex in future for creating awareness about osteoporosis in masses.
