JAMMU, Nov 17: Speaker Legislative Assembly Kavinder Gupta and Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Sukhnandan Kumar today inaugurated a Water Supply Scheme at Barjala in Satwari executed under the National Rural Drinking Water Programme.
The pumping station constructed at a cost of Rs. 176.15 lakh would benefit a large number of people residing in Barjala and its adjoining areas.
Speaking on the occasion, Speaker said that Central and State Governments are making concerted efforts to ensure equitable development of the State for which area specific developmental plans have been chalked out to provide better amenities to the people.
Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Sukhnandan Kumar reiterated the commitment of the Government to provide clean and safe drinking water to people and said that steps are afoot to augment water supply in all the areas.
While raising their grievances, the residents of village Barjala demanded five hand pumps and also highlighted various other developmental needs of their area. The Minister gave a patient hearing to the demands said that all their problems would be met in a time bound manner.
It is pertinent to mention here that NRDWP caters to the emerging challenges in the rural drinking water sector relating to availability, sustainability and quality of drinking water.
Chief Engineer PHE and Irrigation Rajeev Gandotra, Executive Engineers of departments of PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control including Panchs and Sarpanchs of the adjoining villagers were present on the occasion.
