JAMMU, Aug 31: Former Deputy Chief Minister and MLA Gandhi Nagar, Kavinder Gupta distributed LPG connections to beneficiaries under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana at Bahu area of his Constituency. As many as 25 LPG connections with other related accessories were handed over to the beneficiaries from rural belt of Gandhi Nagar. Reiterating his commitment to work for public welfare, Kavinder said, the Central Government has envisaged this scheme to provide women with a safe and clean provision of fuel for cooking. More than 5000 households of Gandhi Nagar have been benefited under the scheme, he added.
Kavinder Gupta said that J&K is fully implementing Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) scheme in letter and spirit “with an aim to make every household smokeless”. “It is a major step to reduce indoor air pollution and a very positive step towards sustainable development as it not only reduces the burden on forests but also ensures right to life for women”, he added. Applauding the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi for his keen interest in the development of the State, Kavinder Gupta said that GoI has been providing liberal funding to the State so that various development projects underway were completed in a time bound manner.
He also made people aware about the benefits of other Centrally sponsored schemes and urged them to come forward and to avail the benefits from these schemes for improving their socio-economic condition. The former Dy. C.M said that people were deprived of LPG as cooking fuel prior to the installation of BJP led Government at the Centre and they relied on firewood, coal, dung etc that adversely affected the health of women and children causing severe respiratory diseases. Furthermore, he appealed to people who can afford the non subsidized cylinder to voluntarily give up their subsidy as more people belonging to BPL category can be benefited under the scheme.
He directed the concerned officials to identify more BPL families through Socio-Economic Caste Census Data and ensure that no eligible beneficiary was left out.
Vivek Patyal, Subash Chander, Sharda Kumari, Ajay Sharma, Dalbir Singh among others was present on the occasion.
