NEW DELHI, May 14 : India’s first two Highway Haats /Villages being brought up by the National Highway of India (NHAI) at Kathua and Udhampur respectively will be ready and become functional in next two years.
This was disclosed here today by Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh in an update on the Highway projects which were started recently.
Pertinent to mention that Highway Haat/Village in Kathua, for which the work started some time back, is located on NH-44, close to Kalibari around Logate Morh, whereas the Highway Village in Udhampur, for which Bhumi Pujan was performed in February this year, is located at Kilometer 2.0 of Udhampur Bypass NH-44, alongside village Garnai Lota. Each of the two Highway villages is to be built at a cost of around Rs 7 to 8 crores each within the schedule timeline of 18 to 24 months after the start of the work.
During the meeting, it was also disclosed that the Contract agencies for execution of work have been identified and boundary wall work started. Meanwhile, the tendering process has also been initiated for the construction and operation of wayside amenities at these Highway villages. Among the amenities to be available at the proposed “Highway Village complex” include a modern multiplex complex consisting Food Court/restaurant, retail arcade including shop/provisional store, Graam Bazaar, Motel rooms for short stay, dormitory for drivers, open-air rest area with benches and tables, toilet facilities, baby care rooms, children play area, fuel stations including air filling station, car washing, puncture repair and pollution check, car/bus parking, first aid facility, internet facility, ATM facility etc. All these amenities will be available at cost effective rates.
Dr Jitendra Singh emphasised on expediting the pace of work so that, if possible, the project is ready before the stipulated timeline.
