‘Kashmir Shaivism’ contribution to philosophy, theology: Governor

JAMMU, Mar 19: Governor NN Vohra inaugurated three-day National Seminar on “Contributions of Kashmir to Shaiv Darshan and Sahitya Shastra” at Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan, Kot- Bhalwal.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said that Kashmir Shaivism had witnessed signal growth during 8th-12th Century AD and contributed to the evolution of philosophical and theological movements in Kashmir during this period.
Governor on the occasion congratulated Prof Ved Ghai for being honoured with Padamshree this year for her invaluable contributions towards the enrichment of the Sanskrit language and for her enormous contribution to enhancing educational opportunities for the children of the less advantaged segments of society.
On the occasion, Governor also released “The Vaishnavi”, a souvenir of the Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan, on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Vishwa Murti Shastri, said that the literary principles of Sanskrit literature would be incomplete if we did not take into account the contributions of the Kashmiri Sanskrit scholars.
He also highlighted the need to introduce Sanskrit at the school level and also pointed that the campus urgently needed transport facility.
Prof NR Kannan, Vice Chancellor Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan in his presidential address said that in the ancient times, acharyas like Shankaracharya had conducted various shastrarthas and popularized Sanskrit here.
He requested the Governor to support the efforts for promotion of the Sanskrit and the Vedas. By citing various references, he highlighted the significance of the Vedas and Sanskrit.
Earlier, Prof PN Shastry presented the welcome address, whereas Sharat Chander Sharma, Associate Prof presented vote of thanks.
The programme was ably conducted by Head of the Department of Sahitya Dr Satish Kumar Kapoor.
Prof Ved Ghai and Prof VM Shastri, ex-Principal, Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan were also present.
In the first technical session today, Prof Ram Bahadur Shukla of Jammu University highlighted contribution of Lukshman Joo to the tradition of Shaiv Darshan. Dr Sugyan Kumar Mahanti from Garli Campus (HP) presented a critical appreciation of Shabda Shakti in the tradition of Sahitya Shastra.
Principles of Mammat Bhatta and Mukul Bhatt, Satyapriya Arya, Atul Kumar Sharma, Brij Kishore Bidua and Atul Khajuria also presented their papers.
The session was presided over by Prof Ram Pratap Vedalankaar, whereas Dr D Dayanatha and Sudeep Kumar Pathak were the conveners of the session.
In the second session, Dr Ajay Kumar Mishra from New Delhi, Chetan Kumar from Jammu Campus, Ashish Dixit from Bhopal Campus, Gourav Sharma and Deepshikha from Jammu University presented their papers. The session was presided over by Dr Sugyan Kumar Mahanti and was jointly conducted by Dr Madan Kumar Jha and Dr Madan Singh.
