LOLAB, May 17: The JKPCC president Tariq Hameed Karra today said that Congress played a key role in the overall development of border residents while leaving no room for any sort of discrimination with the people living in Jammu and Kashmir. The present dispensation at Centre has done nothing for the people except making false promises aiming to mislead people on every count. The approach of the BJP led Govt towards J&K is insensitive and unresponsive.
Addressing party convention at Lolab in Kupwara JKPCC chief said Centre’s decision to unilaterally degrade erstwhile J&K State and divide into two UTs shows how BJP Govt was desperate to demean and demoralize people while adding insult to their injuries. Congress Party shall continue to fight vigorously for protection of peoples’ rights and restoration of complete statehood to J&K, which is being denied by the Centre to rule J&K directly.
Karra said the entire J&K is confronted with different challenges especially on economic and development fronts, besides considerable rise in unemployment especially after the abrogation of Art 370, 35-A and downgrading of State by the BJP Govt, which was an assault on the rights of people, adding insult to their injuries. Congress will strongly continue to oppose the Centre’s unilateral move and demands that the Centre Govt should fulfill its promise to restore complete Statehood to J&K with all constitutional guarantees, which have been undone by it (Centre) aiming to rule J&K directly.
Referring to the second phase of Sangthan Srijan Abhiyaa, Karra said Congress has a system in place through which office bearers of PCCs, DCCs or be it the Block or Booth committees they get scrutinized and identified on the ground for the organizational positions, which is a significant process and needs to be followed and implemented in both letter and spirit.
CLP Leader and AICC general secretary Ghulam Ahmad Mir described Congress as a strong Nation and told the Party leaders and workers to rise to the occasion to further strengthen the Party at grass roots level. He said the great contributions and sacrifices made by Congress leaders to the inclusive development of the country cannot be replaced. Referring to the current socio-political scenario obtaining in J&K, Mir said J&K is the victim of BJP’s deceitful policies.
Commenting on the recently concluded Bengal elections, Mir who is Incharge West Bengal cautioned the workers about the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) and told them to gear up to defeat it in J&K. SIR turned the Bengal election in favour of BJP, Mir added, describing the move an unethical, an assault on genuine voters, which has been done to steal the elections.
MLA Irfan Hafeez Lone and DCC president, Farooq Mir also spoke on the occasion. Senior leaders Nissar Ahmad Mandoo, Fayaz Ahmad Mir, Dr Audil Farooq Mir Lasjan, Reyaz Raja, Bilal Ashiq Mir, GA Reshi, Prof Danish Jehangir, Sameer Bhat and Mahila Distt president Tahira Bano were also present.
