Kargil Sentinels celebrates golden jubilee of victory of Kala Pahar battle

UDHAMPUR, June 5: Kargil Sentinels celebrated golden jubilee of victory of Kala Pahar battle with solemnity, traditional verve and great fervor.
In May 1965, Pakistan had increased hostilities along the Indo-Pak border and especially along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir. The Pakistan Army had occupied Kala Pahar and adjacent features, thereby dominating Srinagar-Kargil-Leh road.
On June 2, 1965, the first battalion of Brigade of Guards was ordered to attack and occupy the areas occupied by enemy. On June 5, 1965, after a battle lasting six hours, the first battalion of Brigade of Guards successfully eliminated the enemy and re-occupied Kala Pahar.
A solemn ceremony was held today at Kala Pahar War Memorial located at Chhanigund, Kargil to commemorate this momentous occasion and pay homage to valiant soldiers who fought this battle. Wreath was laid at the Kala Pahar War Memorial by Commander, Kargil Sentinels along with other military dignitaries.
A brief presentation on battle of Kala Pahar was also given. The boards, photographs and war diary of the battle were also displayed at the site of the event. The heroic deeds of Indian Army and especially those brave soldiers who fought this famous battle in 1965 were applauded by all military and civil dignitaries present on the occasion.
