Karbalai writes to PM for opening Kargil-Skardu road

JAMMU, Apr 11: MLA Kargil, Asgar Karbalai today wrote to PM Narendra Modi over the recent after- flood crisis in Pakistan occupied Gilgit Baltistan which led to closure of road network between Pakistan and Gilgit Baltistan and has demanded opening of Kargil-Skardu road.
In his letter, Mr Karbalai has explained that the region is cut off from the rest of the world for the last 20 days due to flashfloods and landslides with the result that commodity and food prices have skyrocketed and causing famine like situation.
“Many villages have been flattened. Lack of medicines has caused endemic diseases in the region. The local populace has appealed to the international community through social media to play greater role in providing relief to the flood victims of Gilgit Baltistan. They are further demanding the immediate opening of Kargil-Skardu road which is only alternative left to reach the victims and provide relief to the local people”, the MLA adds in the letter.
Mr Karbalai has sought attention towards the latest statement by the Chief Minister of Gilgit Baltistan, according to which the situation in the area is worsening due to break down of road network and civic facilities in the region caused by the recent heavy rains and flash floods.
Expressing the need to open Kargil-Skardu road to reach the flood effected victims, Karbalai has requested Prime Minister of India to take up the issue with his Pakistan counterpart so that the adequate relief to flood effected victims in Gilgit Baltistan could reach.
“In these circumstances, it is need of the hour to open the only alternative route Kargil-Skardu road to reach the flood affected victims and to ease the relief and rehabilitation process,” the MLA has appealed.
