REASI, Apr 2: Annual District Drama Festival organized by Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages was inaugurated today at NHPC Auditorium, Jyotipuram, Reasi.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Reasi Babu Ram was the chief guest. Rakhi, Dr Arvinder Singh Amn, Additional Secretary, Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages were also present on the occasion.
While speaking on the occasion, Additional DC complimented Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages for organizing Annual District Drama Festival at Reasi in which seven theatre groups are performing. He also appreciated the today’s performance and said that through such efforts the social issues can be addressed in a befitting manner and the local talent also gets boost through such festivals. He assured the full cooperation and support from the Reasi Administration in future to arrange the activities related to the art, literature and visual and performing arts.
Earlier, while welcoming, Dr Arvinder Singh Amn informed about the future activities of Play Kabuliwala by Rabinder Nath Tagore and adapted by Rajneesh Gupta and presented by Sangam Theatre Group, Reasi depicts the morality and simplicity of the characters and revolves around a Pathan named Abdul Rehman mostly known as Kabuliwala. He usually comes to sell dry fruits fortunately he passes by Babu’s house who is a writer and his daughter namely Mini residing with him. The Kabuliwala visits in his residence and creates emotional attachment with Mini as his daughter. In the meanwhile on refusal of a business man who borrowed some cash from Pathan, he was murdered by Pathan and Pathan gets life imprisonment.
After jail when he returns to meet Mini, the child Mini of that time now a young girl refuses to recognize Kabuliwala. Kabuliwala with a broken heart decides to return back to his country to meet his only daughter.
The play was directed by M Akram Khan and the artists who performed include Ajay Waguzari (Babu) Natasha Thakur (Mini) Barkha Thakur (Maa) Suraj Narayan (Kabuli Wala) Joginder Kumar (Seth) Shipali Devi (Badi Mini) Karan Kumar (Inspector) Tanav (Admi) Rashid Khan (Saphai) and on back stage Raja Amir Khan (set design) Akram Khan (make up) Parveen Akhtar ( costume) Anam Khan (music) Shadab Khan (light design) Ajaz Khan (play back singing) M. Rashad (properties) Rakesh Bhagat (photography) Sudhir Sharma (publicity ) M. Akram Khan (design and direction).
Tomorrow, on 3rd of April, 2017 Dogri play Chaped by Raghunath Ramlila and Dramatic Club, Ramkot will be performed.
