NEW DELHI, Jan 10:
The Central Government has notified the appointment of Justice N Kotiswar Singh as the acting Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court, effective from January 12.
Justice Singh’s appointment will come into effect following the retirement of Chief Justice RM Chhaya. The notification in this regard was published by the Union Ministry of Law and Justice.
The Supreme Court collegium in December 2022 had recommended the appointment of Justice Kotiswar Singh as the Chief Justice of the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court. In the same resolution, the collegium had also recommended the appointment of Kerala High Court Judge Justice K Vinod Chandran as the Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court.
In May 2022, Justice Kotiswar Singh was appointed as the Acting Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court following the elevation of the then Chief Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia to Supreme Court. (Agencies)
