JU’s SHTM organizes special programme on World Tourism Day

JAMMU, Sept 28: The School of Hospitality and Tourism Management organized a special programme on the World Tourism Day, based on UNWTO theme ‘Tourism and Sustainable Energy: Powering Sustainable Development’, here this evening.
The event raised a platform where different schools of thought gathered at one place to discuss contemporary issues and challenges and their strategic implications for modern tourism and hospitality operations.
The event emerged as an important forum to gain surgical insights into the delicate equation between tourism and sustainability paradigm.
Prof R K Ganjoo shared his expertise on glacial sciences and delivered a full scale lecture on shifting paradigms between climate change, settlement patterns and tourists mobility.
He underscored certain critical issues that would have a direct fall out on future tourism operations and discussed in detail as to how the contemporary tourism managers need to reequip themselves to deal with rising sustainability challenges.
Prof Raj Kumar, HoD, Environmental Sciences and Prof Anil Raina also graced the occasion and shared their valuable experience with the students.
Prof Deepak Raj Gupta, Director, School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, delivered the presidential address and welcomed the guests.
He precisely discussed the radical progression that is taking place within the 21st century tourism industry and how it is going to navigate the sustainable development debate. All the faculty members of the department participated in the event and made dynamic deliberations on the theme. The students of the department showed their complete commitment and participated with full zeal and zest.
The research scholars of the department also conducted a quiz competition which brought out the various nuances of the tourism and sustainability paradigm and made participation a lively experience for the audience. The performers were honored with the appropriate prizes.
